The Donald Moore Letters

[ PAGE ONE ]

Good old Wanda L. Willing, receives a classic Nigerian 419-type scam e-mail from a "Donald Moore" who is apparently in a South African refugee camp with two cans full of cash sitting with a security company in Holland.

In this adventure, Wanda travels first to Amsterdam, then to Johannesburg twice in her efforts to retrieve this cash for the poor refugee. Unfortunately, she just can't seem to meet with any of the parties involved.

As it turns out, this scammer is the same turd-maggot as the one trying to scam me in The Johnson David Letters.

Conventions within the thread:

E-mails from the fraudsters are in black.
E-mails from me (Wanda) are in italicized green.
E-mails from me (Felix Kumo) are in italicized blue.
Red X's represent characters that have been changed to protect personal info.
Comments from me are in bold black.

The game commences with Moore's initial e-mail.

Greetings, Mr. Moore,

My apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I had been out of town on business since yesterday morning and hadn't received your email until now.

If you wish me to keep this transaction confidential, that won't be a problem.

Travelling to Amsterdam wouldn't normally be a problem. However, I must have some advance notice. Appointments would have to be cancelled/postponed, etc. As well, if I am to travel overseas, our business would have to be concluded quickly as I am a very busy woman and taking an extended period of time from my work would raise suspicion among my collegues. A weekend would be Ideal if possible.

I do not have a phone simply because I am deaf and have no use for one. My personal fax number here in the U.S. is 630-XXX-XXXX.

Again. Could you please email or fax me some identification?

Thanks,

This is not a convincing document. Very bad formatting, one signature on top of another, dates that don't make sense including the document date stamp of Dec. 15th, 2004 (45 days into the future), not completely filled out, badly hacked photo. A poorly done document.

I receive a fax from the security company.

Lousy formatting of the text on this one too. And, to top it all off, the fax addresses Wanda as "Sir".

"Schipol" is actually a misspelling of "Schiphol" but for some reason, these scammers use this misspelling quite a bit. Try a quick Google search for "Schipol Clearing House". Amazing what turns up.

Dear Mr. Moore,

How are you doing?

I received a fax from the Global Security Company in Amsterdam early this morning.

Seems that they are requesting my attendance in Amsterdam. Me and $15,000.00!

It seems that fifteen thousand dollars is a bit expensive for shipping charges for two steel boxes, or maybe I'm out of touch with reality. Please advise on how to proceed from here.

I anxiously await your reply.

Dear Mr. Moore,

May I call you Donald?

I just wanted to inform you that I can be in Amsterdam for the 15th of November (Monday). Will this be okay with you? Since you are in contact with Global Security, could you pass this along to them?

If that date will be acceptable, then I'll probably be arriving on Saturday the 13th.

I guess that $15,000.00 is a reasonable amount considering the value of the contents of the boxes.

I will arrange to secure the funds tomorrow and will bring a personal check in the amount of $15,000.00 to Amsterdam for the charges incurred by the security company.

Also, I will require a copy of the bill of lading. This will apparently be required by the security company. Do you have this?

To whom it may concern,

I am Wanda Leona Willing and as you are aware, I have been assigned by your client, Donald Moore, to retrieve two metal boxes containing his personal belongings.

I wish to meet with your representative on Monday, November 15th, 2004 to take care of this matter. Is there anything else you will need from me other than those items stated in your fax of November 4th?

Also, will you require the entire amount for the admin charges in cash? Fifteen thousand dollars is a considerable amount of money to be walking around with and I was hoping that you would take at least some of that amount in travelers checks.

I would also like to know the approxamate size and weight of the two boxes so that I can arrange for the removal of them from your facility.

I would like to say that I appreciate the email contact as I am out of town for the next day or two and I don't have easy access to a fax machine at this time.

I will anxiously await your reply.

Dear Mr. Clement,

Thank you for your email. I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. I had to attend a funeral yesterday.

I spent this morning securing the funds necessary for this transaction. I must say that I'm quite uncomfortable carrying around this much cash. I think I'll convert most of it into travelers checks before I leave and change it back to cash in Amsterdam before I meet with your officials. I don't think this will be a problem but I'll check before I depart for Amsterdam just to make sure.

I have just finished making flight arrangements. I will be departing Chicago's O'Hare tomorrow night and catching a connecting flight in Copenhagen on Saturday. I will be arriving in Amsterdam at 4:30 PM Saturday on SAS flight 1549 from Copenhagen.

I gratefully accept your offer to book a room for me. My preference would be the Sheraton at Schiphol Airport since it has wireless internet access. Email is very important to me (especially now). I will be staying for at least two nights (Sat. and Sun.). Hopefully our business will be taken care of on Monday.

Thank you for you help, Mr. Clement. I'll await your reply.

Meanwhile, I have had a change of mind about having someone pick me up at the airport. Not that I don't trust you or your colleagues. Greetings, Donald Moore
I was just wondering how well you know these people from Global Security. I must admit I've been having second thoughts about meeting with people I don't know with $15,000 in my luggage. Certainly it would be quite careless for a woman travelling by herself to do such a thing. I have decided to settle into my hotel room before I meet with the people from the security company.

Anyway, the booking agency that I had booked my flight with cancelled my ticket about a half hour after I made the booking. Something about the flight being overbooked or something. I found another flight that will put me in Amsterdam earlier in the day but it's going to cost me about a hundred dollars more. But at least I'll have a bit more free time to enjoy the sights.

I'll email you when I get to Amsterdam on Saturday.

I have rescheduled my flight to Amsterdam. The days are the same but I will be arriving in Amsterdam somewhat earlier on Saturday than originally planned. This will work out fine for me though. It will give me some more time to establish myself in my hotel room. I'll contact you when I have done this.

I have decided to find lodging closer to the downtown area. This will give me more time to familiarize myself with the downtown area.

I hope I haven't offended you by changing my mind about being picked up at the airport. It's just that I don't feel comfortable meeting with someone who I don't know, and, as a woman alone carrying around this amount of money, I wish to remain cautious.

I hope you understand.

Good morning, Mr. Clement,

Thank you for the welcome.

Actually, unless you're prepared to take travelers checks, I'll probably be spending the better part of tomorrow exchanging them for cash. Also, I have some other adminisrative duties to perform tomorrow prior to taking delivery of the two packages.

Therefore it will probably be at least Tuesday before I'm ready.

I'll let you know when I have a better idea of what the timeline will be.

Thanks for the email.

Subject: Meeting on Monday

Good day, Mr. Clement,

If you like, I could meet you or your representative on Monday afternoon. But I've decided that it must be in a public place and on my terms. I wish to remain very cautious. I hope you understand.

I have chosen a spot for this initial meeting and I have familiarized myself with this area. It is at Van Baerlestraat 20, between Vondelpark and Museumplein. If you're familiar with the city, you should know where this is.

There is a men's wear store at that address called The Society Shop. It occupies the first floor of large grey-colored building. Since I don't know how to identify the individual I will be meeting with, he must wait for me in the exact spot I dictate which will be in front of the main entrance to this store. Do not have him stand inside the entrance but rather on the sidewalk in front of the entrance, otherwise I might miss him. If nothing looks suspicious or out of the ordinary, I will stop my car in front of the entrance and pick him up.

It would be helpful if he was holding a sign with my name on it but as long as he is standing in front of the main entrance to the store, I should be able to spot him.

If I think anything looks suspicious, I will not stop.

I wish this meeting to take place between 3:00 PM and 3:30 PM Monday. I'm giving myself some room for error here. I am driving a dark blue Volkswagen Bora.

It is already after midnight and I've had a long and busy day. Time to get some sleep. It's going to be a busy day again tomorrow.

Again. Please forgive me but I feel it is best for me, as a woman alone in a strange city with a large amount of cash to be very careful.

Best regards,

In doing some research on Amsterdam on the internet, I discovered the site of a webcam company (www.webcam.nl) with viewer-controllable demo cams at various spots around the city. One such cam is located just above the main entrance to a men's wear store called The Society Shop. I can get the camera to point directly downward toward the sidewalk. Just maybe I can get a picture of our mugu standing around waiting for Wanda to drive up.

By the way. The weather forcast for Monday in Amsterdam is light rain so maybe I'll get to see a soaking wet mugu on camera.

Good morning Mrs Willing,

Your mail was perused but we cannot comprehend the type of fears you are excersing. We are too busy with other costomers and we have a system of working, you know every establishment has rule and regulation by which to operate and we don't hope that we can change it because of the person been cautious or being afraid. We beleive that if you want to take delivery of your consignments, you should comply with our instruction.

We have asked you the name of the hotel and room number so that our protocol officer will come with official car to bring you to our office.

Do not think that we are after your money, the fees is for our handling and administrative charges. The protocol officer are mandated to bring you to our office and bring you back on taking delivery of your consignment.Don't expect that we will allow our officer to be going about in the street with playcard,we does that only in the airport. We are also cautious in our dealing.

Please, get back to us immediately

Mr. James Clement.

Dear Wanda Willing,

Compliments of the day,I was contacted from Amsterdam this morning and they said that you don't want to tell them the name of hotel and room where they will meet you,In that matter i will advice you to give them the hotel where you presently stay than to tell security company to come and meet you along the road.My advice is this as soon as you're successfully with security company today them you should change the hotel because of large amount of money that is involved. Please corporate with them so that you should achieve your aim of comming to Amsterdam. try to contact them as soon as possible and get back to me.

Regards

Moore.

Dear Mr. Clement,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I had been running my laptop on battery since my arrival and finally had to go out to purchase a charger for it this morning.

As for your reluctance to meet me under my terms, I'm afraid that this is the way I want it. I will leave my hotel room now and proceed to the area of the Society Shop. Either there will be someone there from your company or there won't. If the meeting doesn't take place, then you can explain it to your client. I, personally, am under no financial obligation to Donald Moore. I can simply return home and be out only my out-of-pocket expenses.

This is what I will do if necessary.

Dear Mr. Clement,

No. This does not solve our problem.

I drove past the entrance to the Society Shop no fewer than 8 times between 2:45 PM and 4:00 PM. Needless to say I saw no one waiting there for me although I DID notice a dark green BMW circling the block several times like I was.

Your reluctance to meet me under my terms makes me very suspicious. And nothing in this world is more important to me than my safety, certainly not Donald Moore's consignment.

Since I will be staying one more night, I am prepared to try one more time tomorrow morning at the Society Shop entrance. Between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM is fine.

Now, I'm going out for dinner and a few drinks so I'll be unreachable for a few hours.

I hope to see your acceptance of my offer in my email when I return to my room.

Respectfully yours,

I actually did notice a green BMW on camera circling the block several times though I certainly don't know whether or not it was our mugu friend.

Dear Mr. Moore,

Sorry. It didn't work out today with Mr. Clement. I won't bore you with the details. Maybe tomorrow. I'll let you know.

Right now, all I want to do is go out and have dinner and a drink or two. I don't care much for being cooped up in this room any longer than necessary.

Bye for now,

Dear Wanda Willing,

We are not okey with your arrangement.,We have advised two ways to help us solve this problem but you turned it down.We have had so many transaction with men and women and none have ever complained. This your behaviours has also put us in doubt if actually you are the real beneficiary of the consignment.

In view of your uncompliance attitude to our instruction,If you still refused to give us your hotel and the number so that we send our protocol officer to come tommorrow and bring you to the office,We advised that you have to travel back, we have no alternative that to send the consignment back.We have done our best.

Thanks and remain bless.

Mr. James Clement

Oh well. It would have been nice to get him on camera but at least I can make him waste away the morning at the Victoria Hotel.
