Greetings and Merry Christmas from Evansville, Indiana, USA.
As you know, one of our parishioners, Miss Patti Kake, has brought your plight to my attention. I have also read your email.
While we at the church are very sympathetic to your situation, we generally do not donate small amounts such as the $500 that you are requesting. It is simply not cost effective for us to do so.
While Miss Kake was correct in telling you that we financially support causes such as yours, we generally take on the role of providing substantially larger cash amounts (over $20,000) to our many affiliated charities throughout the third world. These charities are all religious organizations and adhere to the same philosophies as we do here at Our Lady of Perpetual Piercings Holy Church.
As you know, there are many charitible organizations in West Africa and, with all due respect, I am personally not familiar with yours. However, if yours is a religious charity, you may wish to explore the possibilities of having your own organization becoming affiliated with us (or another church) at some point in the future. You will find that you can be much more effective at raising the kind of funding that will benefit your clients.
So as you see, we cannot possibly assist you with your request at this time. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

First, on behalf of all of the members of our church, I would like to thank you for the wonderful things you are doing for the underprivileged in your area. May God bless you for this.
Yes, our church committee would be quite willing to consider your application for affiliation, especially since we have no affiliated charities in Nigeria at this time. However, this would require that you and the officers of your foundation become members of our church. This would require a great commitment on your part and I would not expect you and your colleagues to make such a commitment. The conversion of one's religion is not something to be taken lightly.
One of our affiliated charities in Accra, Ghana, The Accra Regional Home for Motherless Children, is being operated by a man by the name of Father George Mbeki. About eighteen months ago he contacted me requesting that his charitable foundation be affiliated with our church. Subsequently, he not only became a member of our church, he also established our presence in Ghana. Father Mbeki is now a very valued member of our clergy. His congregation is now largely supporting the charity by itself although we still send him several thousand dollars as well as shipments of food, clothing and dry goods on occasion to assist his congregation in supporting the charity.
Father Mbeki however has made a great commitment to our church. I would certainly not expect everyone to follow in his footsteps.

I have read your email and I think it's wonderful that you not only want to affiliate your charity with our church but you wish to establish our church's presence in your country.
However, I hope you understand that, not only will you have to join our church, your charity's officers have to join as well. This means not only the president of your organization but the vice president, the treasurer, any and all board members, etc. Are you certain that these people are willing to commit themselves to this task?
As well, if you choose to establish a branch of our church in Nigeria, you will have to take on the role of being a clergyman as well.
I'm certainly not trying to discourage you from doing this, indeed I think it's wonderful. I just want to know that you and your associates have thought this through before we commence the induction procedures.
Normally we would require you to travel here for these ceremonies but due to the urgency of your situation, we will be content with doing the confirmation of the proceedings over the internet via photographs.
Upon completion of the induction ceremonies and the required paperwork, your charity will be affiliated with our church. We can then give to your charity an emergency infusion of cash in the amount of approx. $22,000. Hopefully this will be enough to meet your most urgent needs until we can send our own representative over to meet with you.
Seeing that you also wish to build a branch of our church in your area, we will also help you with this. We generally don't give money to build the actual structure of new churches, rather we will support you financially as you recruit new members to our faith. It is these new members who will construct the building itself.
For new member recruitment, we are prepared to give you $18,500. I know this may not sound like much but once you have recruited new members of your own, they will do an amazing job raising more money for you. Trust me on this. It a method that works well.
The induction ceremonies of all of your charity's officers shouldn't take long at all. Once we commence, we would like it to be done with in a few days if you can complete with photographic verification. We can then transfer the above two amounts to your charity's bank account.
You can start by giving us the names of the officers in your charity so that we can prepare the paperwork. Also, we will eventually be sending a representative or an aid worker to meet with you, possibly in late January or early February. Could you be so kind as to accommodate this representative in your home for a few weeks? I would highly appreciate it if you could.

My apologies for my delay in getting back to you. Several other issues have come up which demanded my immediate attention and I was called out of town for a couple of days. I am only now beginning to catch up on the backlog of work that has accumulated during my absence.
I would like to get the issue of the little boy off the table once and for all. Sir, with all due respect, there are literally hundreds of thousands of sick little boys all over the world. It is our position that the duty of our church to support our affiliated charities so that they may look after the needs of these many little boys. It is not, however, the duty of this church to look after these many underprivileged children on a case by case basis.
I am willing to use the resources of this church to help you do your job. I am not prepared to do your job for you. I would be happy to have Fr. George Mbeki's foundation, The Accra Regional Home for Motherless Children in Accra contact you. He is much closer to you geographically than I am and may be in a position to assist you in this matter.
Concerning the induction procedure, I may have overstepped my bounds by telling you that we could accept proof of your commitment over the internet. It seems that the induction ceremonies may have to be done in the presence of one of our ordained priests. There is some argument among the board members about this and they will address this issue at their next meeting. If and when they reach a consensus, I will inform you on how we will proceed.
Although this will delay things for a short while, you have my word that we will get this done.

Basically, there is some question among the church elders about the validity of conducting the induction over the internet.

Dear Johnson Njoku,
I have contacted Fr. Mbeki in Accra and forwarded your email address and concerns to him. Hopefully he'll contact you soon. I have stressed your urgency to him in my email to him.
Concerning the induction, I'm certain that you won't have to travel overseas to do this. At most, we can have Fr. Mbeki witness the induction. This would obviously make more sense. Anyway, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Am I the one? Jeffery, we've only been communicating for a day. I
don't believe you know me well enough to even ask me that. I don't
have the answer to that question.
Speaking of college, here's a couple of pics of me from the day I
graduated. They're the only good ones I have of myself on that day.
