I had a couple of games in the process of wrapping up and decided that I was ready to take on a new one. The e-mail from the 'son/daughter/wife' of former Liberian president Charles Taylor is an extremely popular one.
In this particular version, the author wants no telephone contact with the respondent. That's just fine with the elderly but wealthy, Dinah Soares.

As I have said previously, I have no need for any amount of money in
return. I am quite elderly and physically disabled at this time and

It is so very nice to hear from you again.
Concerning the court document, Barrister Larry claims that this Change
of Ownership document costs $1800 from the courts. Now, my late
husband was a barrister and I worked for him in his office right up
until his passing in 1998 and I know that documents like this don't
cost anywhere near this much, even in India.
It seems at least to me that Barrister Larry may be wishing to line
his pockets a bit at our expense. Don't you think so?

I'm so sorry for not being able to reply to you sooner. I have been in
surgery for a wheelchair replacement.
As to the $1800, I understand that Larry may have had his expenses,
but I am being asked to pay this amount simply for the court document
and this doesn't make any sense to me. His personal expenses are quite
separate from this and should be listed separately on the invoice.
As his client, you must surely have been invoiced by Larry for his
expenses. Could you please take a picture of this invoice and send it
to me on e mail? I am very knowledgeable in these matters and can make
an informed decision if I receive a copy of the invoice.

I know of the troubles you are having, but you must have received a
formal invoice from Larry. This invoice will tell us how much we must

yet? If he has then you must forward that to me immediately so that we
can move forward with this matter.
I have no problem assisting you financially in this matter as you
know. As I have already told you, I do not need anything in return for
this. I must, however, know exactly what I am paying for when I send
Larry this $1800.
Like I said, I have personally worked in a law office for many decades
and I know how this is normal practice anywhere in the world.

is not just for the Change of Ownership document from the courts, but
for all of you expenses thus far in this matter. This makes more
sense. However I will require a copy of your formal invoice before I
can pay it. As a barrister, you will certainly know that this is
standard procedure.
I am certain that Mrs. Taylor won't mind if you send me a copy of this
invoice considering that I will be paying it. I had asked her about
the invoice and she did not appear to understand what I was talking
about so I assume that you haven't invoiced her either.

I am sorry. I cannot fathom your attorney. He refuses to invoice me.
He says that he must get the court to give him an invoice. This is
ridiculous. Seems he doesn't even know what an invoice is. I have
never known anyone in business or practice who didn't know what an
invoice is. It would be very difficult to get paid without this
knowledge, wouldn't it?
I'm afraid, because of this, that we are at an impasse. I can be of no
further assistance to you.

Yes I mailed the lawyer that I told of in Nigeria, Barrister Yakubu Usman, but he traveled? to London, and he is coming back today, he has agreed on getting the change of ownership certificate for us , that he will have to go to the high court of justice , in Nigeria here, that the chief justice there is his personal friend,
That he is not taking any charge from me, do to my conditions, but that we will only pay for the official stamps and some tip off, that we will send to him 7.00 united states dollar( seven hundred dollar only) that he will get it for us in two days , so I trusted this man very well , so don’t panic ,just help and pay him ok, he is an old man of 52yrs with families , please try your best ok,

How can you not understand my position on this issue? All I am asking
for is an invoice from you with a breakdown of your expenses and fees.
I am completely aware that this Change of Ownership document does not
cost anything near $1800.00 USD. This is what you had led me to
believe initially. Mrs. Taylor explained that there were other fees
involved here as well, your time and expenses, etc. That makes more
sense. So I asked for an invoice listing all of these fees and
expenses but it appears that you have no idea what an invoice is.
You say that you have been practising law for fifteen years. How do
you bill your clients? Do you simply email them for money? Have you
even had any clients prior to Mrs. Taylor?
I have spent 46 years working at the well-respected London law firm of
Zits Cankers and Soares where my late husband was a founding partner and
I have never in my life heard of an attorney who was unaware of the
procedure of invoicing his clients.

The fact is that I have been the family lawyer of former president of
Liberia, Charles Taylor, for very long time, even when he was l in power up
to date now they are in Nigeria seeking asylum .
