Dear Beloved,

I am Barrister Afsar Ali, a solicitor at law. The personal attorney to a late foreign expatriate Engr. Rufus, who hails from your country and shares the same last name with you. This is an urgent and very confidential business proposition. On Monday, 12 May 2008 it was reported to us that my Client, his wife and their five children were involved in the Chinese earthquake that created a crack in there building in Lanzhou, in the north-western province of Gansu, hundreds of kilometres from the epicentre during there holidays in China.

The earthquake happened at about 23:08 GMT, the school building, churches residential building and hospitals collapsed, unfortunately on that same residential building were my client and his family lived also collapsed that resulted their death, about 70,000 citizens and none citizens of China died.  Since then I have made several enquiries to your embassy to locate any of my clients extended relatives this has also proved unsuccessful.

After several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to track his name over the Internet, to locate any member of his family hence I contacted you. I contacted you to assist in claiming this fund from the finance house where he deposited his funds before his untimely death. The finance company where my client had an account valued US$9.5million dollars has told me to provide the next of kin to an account where the bank will transfer the funds without delay.

Since I have been unsuccessful in locating the relatives, I seek your consent to present you as the next of kin of the deceased since you have the same last name so that the proceeds of this account valued US$9.5 million dollars can be paid to you as the next of kin. All I need is your full maximum support and cooperation to enable us achieve this transaction within 10 working days and I guarantee that this will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law.

If you are interested in this transaction, kindly furnish me with your full names, contact address, Age, occupation and position, private telephone and fax numbers to enable us commence work immediately. It's important to note that any real people or legitimate organizations mentioned in these scam e-mails have absolutely no connection with this scam!

The scammers never use their real names.
They frequently take on the identity of real people to help them convince you that they are genuine.
Whatever these scammers tell you, DON'T believe a word of it!!!

This is just a small sampling of the many hundreds of advance fee fraud e-mails received each day here at 419 BAITER headquarters.

There are many different types of 419 scam (examples) but they all promise you something (fortune, job with salary/commision, low-interest loan, lottery prize, cheap gold dust/diamonds, work visa, etc.) in return for a small 'fee' or some kind of remittance. Of course, there is no fortune, no job, no loan, no prize to be had. It's just a ploy to get you to willingly send them money.

NOTE TO SPAMMERS: My scam e-mail filtering system is pretty good but it isn't perfect. Occasionally a regular spam e-mail may get mistakenly published as a 419 scam. This is inadvertent. If you are a spammer and you don't wish to have your spam e-mail published on this website, the solution is simple. Don't send me spam.
