None of the scammers use their real names.
Sometimes they take on the identity of real people to help them convince you that they are genuine.

I want to use this opportunity to introduce myself well to you, I am Marcus Gamba the son of a late chief Jonas Gamba of Accra- Ghana West Africa, I call you in respect of my consignment box in USA, which I want you to assist me and stand as my foreign beneficiary to receive my fund over there in USA, this fund am writing you about is $12.5million U.S.Dollars which my late father deposited under UN Diplomatic Security company for I and my mother, this consignment has been in USA for the pass one month now.

My father foreign partner Mrs Juliet Lerman who was suppose to receive this consignment in USA, was demanding for 50% which I and my mother did not agree on for any reason, that was why we have to stop the delivery to her immediately, and search for another Beneficiary who can help us on this, through my searching I got your contact from the Ministry of Chambers and Commerce, that is why I am contacting you to assist us on this.

There are many different types of 419 scam (examples) but they all promise you something (fortune, job with salary/commision, low-interest loan, lottery prize, cheap gold dust/diamonds, work visa, etc.) in return for a small 'fee' or some kind of remittance. Of course, there is no fortune, no job, no loan, no prize to be had. It's just a ploy to get you to willingly send them money.
